Practical fixes for adding a route, editing your journey, watching the preview and saving your video.

Quick checks for common issues.
My route will not open
- Share the full journey from Google Maps, rather than a single place or search result.
- Make sure every stop appears correctly in Google Maps before you share it.
- If you are using a shortened link, check that your device is online.
- If the route came from another app, try saving it there as a GPX file.
The map or route is unavailable
- Check your connection and try again after a short pause.
- Open Settings to check whether the route service is working.
- A temporary service problem can stop place search or route building.
- If you see an error, wait a few minutes before trying again.
My video will not save
- Choose one of the video quality options available on your device.
- Make sure your device has the amount of free space shown on the save screen.
- Keep AnimateMyRoute open while it creates the video.
- If a large video fails, try 720p or the standard 30 fps setting.
Adding a route
Google Maps route
In Google Maps, create the journey with all the stops you want, then choose Share. Paste the link into AnimateMyRoute. If a stop is missing clear location details, the app will ask you to fix the route instead of guessing the place.
GPX file
Your GPX file needs at least two points. If it will not open, create a fresh copy from the app that created it and choose the standard GPX format. Simply changing another file's name to end in .gpx will not convert it.
Manual route
Searching for places needs an internet connection. Include a town, county or full address so the app can find the right place. If search is temporarily unavailable, try again later or start with a GPX file.
Using a photo of your vehicle
Choose a bright, clear photo where the vehicle stands out from the background. The app removes the background privately on your device. If it cannot find the vehicle, try a less cluttered photo with stronger contrast. You can use the brush tools to tidy the result.
Previewing and saving your video
The saved video will follow what you see in the preview. If the journey feels too fast, make the animation longer or add pauses at important stops. Videos are saved without sound, ready for you to add music or narration in your usual video editor.
You can choose portrait, landscape or square. AnimateMyRoute only offers the video size and smoothness settings your Android device can handle. Some older devices may still let you edit and preview a project even if they cannot save the finished video.
Projects, backups and storage
Your projects stay on your device. Deleting one will not delete videos you have already saved. Before uninstalling the app or clearing its storage, save an .animatemyroute backup somewhere safe. You can clear temporary files in Settings without losing finished projects.
More common questions
Why does my Google Maps route look different?
AnimateMyRoute uses the stops in your shared link to build a new route. It does not copy the exact route from Google Maps, so it may choose slightly different roads.
Can I work completely offline?
You can open a GPX file and edit a saved project offline, but parts of the map may not load. Searching for places and building a route along roads need an internet connection.
Why are some video options unavailable?
AnimateMyRoute only shows video options your device can handle. If a choice is unavailable, try a smaller video size or the standard 30 frames per second (fps) setting.
Where is my saved video?
Finished videos are saved to your Android device. They should appear in your Gallery or Files app, although this can sometimes take a moment.
